Lands End Quilt Pattern Launch

Inspired by the Lands End area of San Francisco

The Lands End area in San Francisco is located in the North West part of the city and is a beautiful look out point. There’s incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate Bridge. This quilt is a representation of the sunset over the ocean, highlighting the beautiful colors of the sky and sea. It is one of my favorite places in the city, and I often take my family there when we need space to unwind and explore. I am so excited to share a piece of my city with you all.

Bold. Modern. Versatile.

This pattern comes in a range of sizes:

  • Pillow / Wall Hanging (18” x 18”)

  • Baby (48” x 48”)

  • Throw (60” x 60”)

  • Twin / Full (90” x 90”)

  • Queen / King (114” x 114”)

It has plenty of opportunities for variation as well! The center block can be substituted with a panel or can highlight large print fabrics beautifully. It also can be a blank canvas for beautiful quilt lines or even hand embroidery! See below for incredible tester versions demonstrating these techniques.

The pattern is rated at a Beginner level and is clear and concise in directions. It is constructed using traditional piecing methods and guides you through how to quickly create half-square-triangles.

Finished items may be produced for sale with proper attribution for the design to Sarah Jean Makes.

Pattern Tester Versions and Variations

Jeanne (IG: @jeanne.garcia) created this Throw sized version using a Ruby Star Society panel. She coordinated colors to create this bold and striking version.

Melissa D 2.jpeg

Melissa (IG: @houseofvinesstudio) created this stunning Wall Hanging size using solid fabrics and even hand quilted it in coordinating colors.

Court 1.jpg

Gorgeous icy blue tones on this panel version in a Baby size. Courtney (IG: @sewing_scientist) really pulled out all the stops for this one!

Funny enough, Courtney is one of two testers who has a “Sewing Scientist” Instagram handle!

Mandy (IG: @Mandy_Bree_Handmade) made a Twin / Full sized quilt and demonstrated how the center block can really be a quilter’s canvas! The quilt lines are so beautiful and really give this version so much texture.

Arundhati (IG: @ArundhatiSagdeo) created two beautifully striking version of the Lands End Quilt. The black background is a Twin / Full size and was quilted using the “quilt as you go” method. The white background piece showcases a beautiful floral print as the middle block so elegantly.

These two beauties were created by Angela (IG: @angie_mama2) in the Wall Hanging / Pillow size. She shows how versatile the pattern can be: simple and modern in all solids, and fun and playful using prints!

Ursula (IG: @modern_rural_quilter) created a bright, bold, and playful Dr. Seuss inspired quilt! This is shown in the Baby size and shows just how this quilt can transform into an adorable blanket or playmat.

Belinda 9.jpg

I cannot express enough how incredible this Queen / King version has turned out. Belinda (IG: @bjaney) showed just how this quilt design can transform into a blank canvas. She hand embroidered this beautiful sea creature in the center panel and it really creates a visually stunning effect. She showcases the quilt top her over a large bed, showing just how perfectly it drapes. Beautiful craftsmanship and an amazing demonstration of this quilt’s potential!

Jesi.jpg

This calming, soothing version was created by Jesi (IG: @simplyjesiquilts) and utilizes a tranquil ocean print with perfectly coordinated solids. If this doesn’t give you a feeling of serenity, I don’t know what will!

Jill Cannon 1.jpeg

Jill (IG: @gingermomquilts) created two lovely Throw sized versions. It is incredible how much texture and depth are given when an intricate print is used for the middle block. Jill has shown how quickly this quilt can come together and how it can have so much variety by just a few color changes. Beautiful works!

Aimee, our second “Sewing Scientist” of the bunch (IG: @sewingscientist) created a delightfully bright and cheerful Throw sized quilt. The texture of the print for the background and the large-scale print for the middle block give so much vibrancy and movement to the quilt. It brings an instant smile and feeling of happy each time I see it.

I have an immense amount of gratitude toward all the wonderful humans who tested this pattern. I have been increasingly amazed at the level of craftmanship, creativity, and versatility that each maker has demonstrated. I could not have asked for a better set of makers to help bring my pattern to life.

I cannot wait to see what you decide to create with this pattern!
